Hey credit warriors, welcome to the show and American Express is bringing in new cellphone protection benefits on 12 of its cards starting April 1st, no it is not an April fools joke, it is really happening. Why would you pick April 1st for the date?

Anyway let’s have a look at how it works, the deductible, coverage amount etc… And then we will look at which 12 Amex cards will actually get the benefit.

So the benefit covers theft and any kind of damage, including screen damage which can sometimes be excluded from these types of coverage. You are covered for $800 per claim and you can use it twice in a 12 month period and there is a deductible of $50 for each claim. Deductible means you have to pay the first $50 of any replacement or repair and then your insurance kicks in and picks up the rest of the bill.

To make a claim it is very simple, you just call the number on the back of your card. And now let’s look at all the cards that will be getting the next benefit. And then we will tell you how some card holders will be able to combine this new insurance with some limited time offers for an even better deal. So the cards getting the new benefit are:

The Platinum Card® from American Express
The Business Platinum Card® from American Express
Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card
Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card
Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card
Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card
Centurion® Card from American Express
Business Centurion Card®*
The Platinum Card® Exclusively for Charles Schwab*
The Platinum Card® Exclusively for Morgan Stanley*
The Platinum Card® Exclusively for Goldman Sachs*
The Centurion® Card Exclusively for Goldman Sachs*

So if you have any of these cards, you will have a new cellphone protection as of april 1st, its not a joke, it real. Just like the Credit Shifu black card! No that was actually an april fools joke. You do have to obviously pay your cellphone bill with your eligible card though.

Finally on the two Delta business cards mentioned above, the Skymiles Platinum business and Reserve Business, there is an additional offer you can combine this with. You can activate an offer to get $15 refunded as a statement credit on your card when you spend $15 per month on US wireless services. That is upto $165 and it expires at the end of this year. So if you have either of those cards I would activate the offer and pay your phone bill with it.

And guys if you are sick of having to find these offers in your Amex account, why not check out the app MaxRewards, their premium service MaxRewards gold, will activate all your amex offers for you so you never miss a deal. They also have a load of other features like monitoring utilizations, sign up bonus trackers etc… You can get a free month of MaxRewards gold with my link below or just download it and try out the free features.

Alright guys thanks for watching, the Amex Platinum right now has a great sign up bonus, 75k points and 10x points per dollar on gas, click the link below to learn more about it. Please subscribe if you are new and we will see you next time. Bye bye.

Are they really going to repair it? Or send you a "similar " replacement phone? I've been burned by cell phone "insurance" in the past.

Hey Shifu can you make a best credit cards video for new service members in the military? I'm wondering if USAA has better credit cards than what's shown on your videos such as the best starter credit cards for students

I am disappointed that they are not going to add this benefit to premium hotel cards (Bonvoy Brilliant & Hilton Aspire).

This makes the Amex Business Platinum a solid option for at least the next few months on cell phone bills – that card has an Amex offer right now earning 5x points per dollar on wireless.

My Chase INK required proof of me purchasing the phone with their card in order to get this benefit. Does anyone know if AMEX requires the same? I've had a cracked screen for over a year now. It's not that bad but it would be nice to get it fixed.

Unfortunately, my Verizon rate doesn't allow me to use any credit card, except theirs. Just direct account debit for the discount… 🙁

I believe the Chase Freedom Flex includes this and no annual fee. Although, I haven't compared the amex protection against the flex.

Am I missing something?

Can't someone just pay $50 and get a brand new phone by saying they lost or had their phone stolen?

My experience: Amex Platinum approved March 6 2021 100K SUB, phone dropped out of pocket in driveway over the weekend on Saturday. Called Amex to open claim today, will drop phone off tomorrow at Bulbs Plus/ pick up same day, (2 hour fix, so I was told) & pay $300 to have my Galaxy Note 9 cracked screen replaced, after submission of required documents, was told I will receive check in mail minus $50 deductible in a month or so. As a side note still about $1500 away from hitting the $5K spend in 6 months but do have til September 6th, Love myself some American Express!
